In a step towards promoting legalized online gambling, the Sikkim Legislative Assembly  passed the unanimously passed the Sikking Online Gambling (Regulation) Amendment Bill. The idea of promoting online gambling has been in the pipeline for some time and the positive response from the online casino gambling industry showing keen interest to get involved has encouraged further developments.

However the online gambling initiatives still face a major challenge. The Information Technology Rules of 2011 require that all Indian internet based companies and entities have to be active in combating the spread of socially unacceptable material and encouragement of gambling or money laundering.
